With
a population of 87 million, Vietnam has become the second
largest country in Southeast Asia. With about 90 % of
the population Vietnamese, the country is very homogenous
from an ethical standpoint. Even with this large percentage
of natives there is a good deal of diversification within
the country.
There are more than 50 other
different ethnic groups within Vietnam. About 85% of
the 7 million of Vietnam's ethnic-minority population
belong to indigenous ethnic minorities, whose settlement
areas have for many centuries been the mountain regions
of Vietnam. The largest groups are Thai and Hmong tribes.
There is about 1 million ethnic Chinese living in urban
centers in the South of the country. |
